Fire Service Fitness

What the service needs
depends on the duty.

Those working in respiratory protection need the respiratory fitness assessment (formerly G 26). Depending on the equipment class, levels 1, 2 or 3 apply.

Those operating turntable ladders, performing height rescue or industrial climbing need the working-at-heights fitness (formerly G 41). Those diving on emergency calls need the hyperbaric fitness (formerly G 31). Those operating the fire engine need the driving fitness (formerly G 25).

What we examine,
and for what.

Driving and operating activities (formerly G 25)

Those operating emergency vehicles (fire engine, command vehicle, turntable ladder). Vision, reaction, physical capacity. Also for PBefBV (passenger transport during operations).

Light respiratory protection (formerly G 26.1)

Filtering half-masks, full or half masks with gas filter. The shortest of the respiratory levels.

Respiratory protection ≤ 5 kg (formerly G 26.2)

Full or half masks with filter and higher breathing resistance. Physical fitness, ECG.

Hyperbaric and diving (formerly G 31)

Fire service divers and compressed-air deployments. Exercise ECG, lung function, ENT assessment.

Working at heights (formerly G 41)

Height rescue, turntable ladder tip, industrial climbing. Vision, physical capacity, exercise ECG.

Vaccination counselling and immunisations for active firefighters (hepatitis, tick-borne encephalitis, tetanus booster) on request.

How a fire service assessment
works with us.

For respiratory > 5 kg, hyperbaric/diving and working at heights please allow 90 minutes each. An exercise ECG takes its time.

1
5 min

Request

Fire service command or individual firefighters reach out. We clarify which G-principles apply.

2
1 – 5 working days

Appointment

Individual or group appointment for a whole fire service. For group appointments we plan the sequence so that no long waits arise.

3
60 – 90 min

On-site examination

History, physical examination, ECG, lung function, depending on occasion exercise ECG. Less time for light respiratory and respiratory ≤ 5 kg.

same day

Finding + certificate

In-person explanation for the person examined. Certificate to the fire service and to FUK Niedersachsen.

From the Google reviews of our practice.

★★★★★
„I had an appointment for the G26.3 examination at the Institute for Occupational Medicine in Isernhagen and I am thoroughly satisfied. I got an appointment very quickly, which honestly isn't a given these days. On site, the doctors were extremely kind, empathetic and professional. The examination went smoothly and in a pleasant atmosphere. Highly recommended."

★★★★★
„I was at the practice today for the G26.3 fire service examination. Unfortunately I can't give more than 5 stars. The medical assistants including the doctor are incredibly kind and friendly. I felt very well taken care of."

What we examine.

Always included

  • History (prior illnesses, previous fitness assessments, FwDV-relevant employment)
  • General physical examination
  • Vision test
  • Hearing test

Additional, depending on the assessment

  • ECG (driving/operating, respiratory ≤ 5 kg and > 5 kg, hyperbaric, working at heights)
  • Lung function (respiratory, hyperbaric)
  • Exercise ECG (respiratory > 5 kg, hyperbaric, working at heights)
  • Lab work (e.g. blood glucose for driving activities)
  • ENT status (hyperbaric/diving)
From our practice philosophy

„Anyone entering a burning building under respiratory protection puts trust in many things. Including that the colleague at their side carries the strain. Fitness is therefore not only a question for the individual but for the whole service."

Commission a fire service assessment.

Tell us which G-principles are relevant for your fire service and how many members we should examine. Group appointments are our speciality.
